6. On the Roof

Curly, Boysie, Grimblegrot and Professor Potter climb onto the flat roof of the Professor's house where the helicopter is waiting.

The helicopter

"Will this machine carry all three of us?" asks Boysie with a worried look on his face.

"Worry not," says Professor Potter. "This helicopter will carry you all easily. Climb in and you can set off."

The two friends clamber into the helicopter and wait for Grimblegrot to get ready.
"Oil? Ok. Fuel? Ok. Air pressure? Ok. Synchrotronic stabiliser? Not sure. Let's try the engine."

"Wait!" cries Boysie. "You forgot to check the brakes."

"Brakes? We don't have brakes. You don't need brakes in a helicopter."

Boysie doesn't look convinced. "Are you sure you don't need brakes?"

"The Professor built this machine," Grimblegrot says with a grin. "If it needed brakes he would have given it brakes. Now stop worrying!"

Boysie persists. "But perhaps he did give it brakes but forgot to tell you."

Curly pats Boysie's knee. "It's all right, Boysie. I've been for a ride in this helicopter many times. It's as safe as the sea."

"That's what worries me!" whimpers Boysie.

Grimblegrot switches on the engine. "Up and away!" he cries as the helicopter lifts steadily into the air.
